WHAT'S
HAPPENING |
On Thursday May 26th, 30
Senators and House Members joined MI FairTax
officials for an early continental breakfast to
discuss the proposed Michigan FairTax. The
meeting took place on the 4th Floor of the State
Capitol Building. As many as 62 legislators now
believe the MI FairTax tax replacement proposal
offers essential benefits for our states economy.
Support ranges from full-on endorsement of the
proposal, to backing the people's ability to vote
on a MI FairTax Constitutional Amendment. Absent a
voter petition drive, the MI FairTax Amendment
requires positive approval by 26 Senators and 74
House members to place the matter before voters on
the General Election
ballot.
MFTA stated its support of many improvements
in the current Snyder Tax Reform as passed.
"You are to be commended for adopting some good
tax reform and the budget this month!" Roger
Buchholtz, MFTA President, continued that
"the Snyder plan is good, moving our business tax
climate up to #22 from the #48 position, but very
soon, that won't be good enough!"
- The MI FairTax makes the
entire state a business tax-free zone for ALL
job providers!
- It eliminates all tax returns and
record-keeping.
- Provides a progressive tax system
where those consumers who chose to spend
more on
new goods and services pay
more in taxes.
- Provides that no legal resident will end up
paying
the full at-the-register sales tax
rate.
61st District Representative Margaret O'Brien
expressed appreciation to the MI FairTax
Association for getting supportive legislators
together. Buchholtz told the group that MFTA
would facilitate establishing a FairTax Caucus in
the House and in the Senate to provide
availability of information on the issue and
establish improved lines of communication. "We are
very encouraged by the reception received today",
Buchholtz said, "and applaud the dedication these
lawmakers have shown in making Michigan the best
it can
be".

OUT AND ABOUT |
IT
MAKES PERFECT
SENSE
From the peoples standpoint the FairTax makes
complete sense and embodies the tax principles set
forth by our founding fathers who embraced and
recommended a consumption tax as the ideal
taxation system. It took 225 years of the
prevailing argument that a consumption tax is
regressive, but the FairTax founders answered by
creating and giving birth to the prebate
concept which untaxes everyone on the necessities
of life.
From a
government's perspective, the FairTax is a
negative idea. The power principle of finance is
pay yourself first. With taxes as they are, the
government gets paid first. With the FairTax, the
government gets tax revenue ONLY when
people buy something and benefit
themselves.
Even though the FairTax would result in a sure and
steady revenue source, the FairTax ultimately
transfers a lot of power to the people. The people
could literally lobby for things by not spending.
The entrenched powers that be,will fight tooth and
nail to maintain their control under the status
quo.
The FairTax is a grass roots idea, with grass
roots benefits for all. It will take a grass roots
groundswell of voter dissatisfaction with the
status quo to enact it. The current system is
unfair, can not be justified, and makes no sense.
IT'S TIME FOR THE FAIRTAX.

SENTINEL FAIRTAX
FACTS |
|
The axioms of
taxation have never changed and never
will.
It may be amusing to some that with all of the
brilliant minds behind the FairTax and all of the
effort put into studying the issue, FairTax.org
ended up in the same place as did our Founding
Fathers. From their study of history, our
founding fathers (without the benefit of
computers or advanced degrees in economics)
determined to build a tax system that had at its
base these never-changing fundamentals of
taxation: · Only people pay taxes. ·
Consumption taxes are the oldest form of taxation
for many good reasons. · Consumption tax
rates are self-limiting. · Consumption taxes,
throughout history, have enhanced civil liberties
and more. · Direct taxes (income taxes/poll
taxes/head taxes), throughout history, have been
the tools of tyranny. · Uniformity of taxation
wards off special interest manipulation.
These points address common questions
regarding the MI FairTax plan:
The
Michigan FairTax is revenue neutral at
$.0975 on every retail dollar spent.
The Michigan FairTax lowers the lifetime tax
burden for most Michigan citizens
The Michigan FairTax benefits retirees who depend
mostly on Social Security. The Michigan
FairTax preserves the overall progressivity of
the Michigan tax burden. The Michigan
FairTax dramatically improves our
states economy. The Michigan FairTax
improves the international competitiveness of
Michigan producers. The Michigan
FairTax promotes home ownership better than the
current system. The Michigan FairTax
simplifies tax compliance, thereby reducing tax
evasion.
