FACTS |
|
Scholarly research tells
us:
THAT UNDER A
FAIRTAX
-Real
wages are 10.3 percent, 9.5 percent, and 9.2
percent higher in years 1, 10, and 25,
respectively than would otherwise be the
case. [3] -
Disposable personal income is higher than if the
current tax system remains in place: 1.7
percent in year 1, 8.7 percent in year 5, and 11.8
percent in year 10. [4] -The
economy as measured by GDP is 2.4 percent higher
in the first year and 11.3 percent higher by the
10th year than it would otherwise be.
[4] -Over
time, the FairTax benefits all income
groups. Of 42 household types (classified by
income, marital status, age), all have lower
average remaining lifetime tax rates under the
FairTax than they would experience under the
current tax system. [5] -Implementing
the FairTax at a 23 percent rate gives the poorest
members of the generation born in 1990 a 13.5
percent improvement in economic well-being; their
middle class and rich contemporaries experience a
5 percent and 2 percent improvement, respectively.
[6] -
Based on standard measures of tax burden, the
FairTax is more progressive than the individual
income tax, payroll tax, and the corporate income
tax. [7] -Charitable
giving increases by $2.1 billion (about 1 percent)
in the first year over what it would be if the
current system remained in place, by 2.4 percent
in year 10, and by 5 percent in year 20.
[8] -The
FairTax provides the equivalent of a supercharged
mortgage interest deduction, reducing the true
cost of buying a home by 19 percent. [10]

WHAT'S HAPPENING
|
WATCH
OUT
Politicians from
both parties are about to receive their wakeup
call Nov. 2nd. New poll numbers suggest a perfect
storm approaching all our beloved representatives.
One party could be cut down, another could find
itself with so many new members its current agenda
would be made obsolete. In state after state
voters cry out for FairTax representation and
legislation. The voters demand action on other
necessary reforms only to find themselves rebuffed
by the status quo. Michigan has experienced the
Draconian bottom of economic decline for six to
eight years, depending on how it is measured. Time
may be running out for those who fiddle while Rome
burns.
The Clarion Sentinel
issues a wakeup call to those who would govern our
state after the election. The FairTax is not going
away, and if someone thinks that we are incapable
of bringing public opinion to bear on the issue
they should think again. The policies we see
placed before the people during this gubernatorial
election cycle are only failed policies of the
past in new wrapping paper. Watch out! The FairTax
gives equal and just treatment to all, and those
who oppose its enactment will find themselves
without jobs. This is not a threat, it is the hue
and cry from those of us who have been victimized
by the current corrupt system. Welcome to
the new FairTax
world!

OUT AND ABOUT
|
Michigan has a
choice this year, cling to the past, or move
towards the future. We must face hard
truths with bold solutions. Our biggest task
for the next four years will be building the
business base necessary to get Michigan's economy
on track. This begins with creating a climate that
businesses don't regard with distrust. We need to
recognize the need for a simple tax structure, one
that's friendly to all companies by removing
embedded tax costs, not just those in a handful of
favored industries, and understand that Michigan's
economic future will depend heavily on residents
growing new businesses from the ground
up. Michigan
needs enormous structural change, in part because
we simply don't have as much money to spend on
state government as we did in the past. The
process of making those changes is likely to
displease some constituencies. Reform of state
government is likely to require skewering a few
sacred cows. Rebuilding our state will mean
consensus across partisan lines. This bipartisan
appeal is a necessity in uniting our state for the
21st century. Answers to Michigan's economic
problems will not be found by railing against the
rise of the global
economy. Our
elected officials must understand the needs of
businesses, not treat them as enemies to be
berated and punished. The MI FairTax meets this
goal in every way. If Michigan is losing jobs to
outsourcing, we must understand the factors behind
those decisions and make our state more
competitive. If we cannot compete against foreign
labor in the industries we used to dominate, we
must enact a tax structure that will make us
excel. We need companies the world over demanding
the right to do business in Michigan. We need to
position our state to succeed in the future.
Michigan needs to stop clinging to its failed tax
policy, and start over with a MI FairTax ensuring
all a better future. Donald S. "Doby"

FAIRTAX
FRIDAY
ARTICLE
If you've paid
attention to almost any form of media in the last
couple months you've seen millions - or billions -
of dollars in advertising promoting candidates.
Many of these ads are attacks, but just before
elections the tone usually changes to what is
called a "closing argument". They are generally
positive ads and condense a candidate's best
arguments into a personal appeal that the voter
will remember as they walk into the booth.
With the negative
FairTax ads now debunked by Factcheck.org and PoliFact.com
and covered by Newsweek, TheHill.com and National
Review, this is a good time to make a closing
argument for the
FairTax:
The FairTax eliminates
over 67,000 pages of the tax code and regulations
that frustrate the nation every April 15th - and
every payday. Do you want to keep what you earn,
control when you pay taxes and enjoy greater
economic freedom? Would you like to bring back
American jobs along with the Made In America
label? Do you want to have greater economic
opportunity for yourself? For your children and
the following generation? We can grow the economy
like never before, shine transparency on
Washington's lobbyist culture and make politicians
accountable for what the government
consumes by adopting the FairTax.
What
will you do to help?
Also, do you have a short
description of the FairTax that best encapsulates
how you believe it will change your life?
We hope you will vote then
continue to contribute to the Constitutional
Republic we call our home - the United States of
America. Thank you!
