SENTINEL FAIRTAX
FACTS |
Why
is the Michigan FairTax progressive, the opposite
of a regular sales tax.
The Michigan FairTax
untaxes all legal residents on the necessities of
life based on Federal Poverty guidelines by
providing a Prebate each month. A Prebate is
simply a payment from Lansing each month in the
amount of the tax on poverty level spending based
on household size. The prebate does not require
the tracking of receipts from actual expenditures,
but simply provides the minimum each family would
spend on taxes at the poverty level. The
payments are issued in advance, hence the term
Prebate!
THE
MICHIGAN FAIRTAX ANSWERS THE PROBLEM OF
REGRESSIVITY. INCLUDING THE PREBATE NO
MICHIGAN RESIDENT PAYS A FAIRTAX UNTIL THEIR
SPENDING EXCEEDS THEIR POVERTY
LEVEL.

Prebate document allows you to calculate your
effective tax rate on our website and is available

WHAT'S
HAPPENING |
Education, education,
education!
YOUR FAIRTAX TEAM continues to educate
candidates across the state running for office in
August and November 2010. Each month
endorsements for the MI FairTax continue to
increase, and we have volunteers working on a
summary of known candidates to establish their
position regarding the MI FairTax and national
FairTax Proposals. This candidate summary
will be available on our website soon! We
encourage you to ask your local candidates their
position, and to support those candidates that
support the FairTax proposal - let them know you
withhold support until they do!
Encourage candidates to contact us if they have any
questions! Give us feedback on any contact
you have with them, and their comments.
Our calendar of events also
continues to fill because volunteers organize,
schedule, and host local presentations where a
specific group or the public in general can learn
and ask questions about the MI FairTax
proposal. Many thanks to all those who have
done so! We have presented at union halls,
libraries, restaurants, and businesses, from
Kalamazoo to Onaway, from Monroe to Port Huron. We
have met chambers of commerce, trade associations,
unions, Tea Partys, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs
all across Michigan. We will do one on
one meetings, or groups in the hundreds, help to
bring FairTax information to your group by
contacting Daar Fisher at mifairtax.org.
Our volunteers resources, time and money, are
precious. The Michigan FairTax Association
will not start a petition drive for the 2010
ballot until we have resources to complete our
task! MFTA will continue educating
legislators, asking them to respond, and give YOU,
the citizens, the option to choose for
yourself.. Will your legislator give you the
choice? If not, will you contribute to a successful
FairTax petition drive?

OUT
AND ABOUT |
Managing Editor: Donald
S. "Doby" Dobrosky Sr. Letter from the
Editor: The Michigan "FAIRTAX CLARION
SENTINEL" is an electronic newsletter that seeks
to build your knowledge base about the Michigan
FairTax. I wish to convey my feeling that without
the support of many, massive change in government
as usual will never happen. As a citizen of the
United States and of Michigan, I do not feel
represented any more. My elected officials
arrive at the seat of government only to be
greeted by lobbyists who subvert what is good for
the people into what is good for the well heeled
few.
My radar screen tells me many
share my sense of frustration, however, I remember
my civics, in order to remain free, I must be
aware of what my government is doing, and rise up
when the process is out of control. For me,
nothing describes the situation I see in Lansing,
or Washington more than "it's out of
control"!
I invite you to join me here
bi-weekly for each new issue of the Michigan
"FAIRTAX CLARION SENTINEL". To understand
how FairTax legislation would effect you, and lend
your voice to the growing chorus of people who are
just plain angry about the state of affairs in our
Michigan. Hopefully, my attempts
to inform will enhance your understanding and
bring about a positive surge in public opinion
leading to the adoption of a Michigan FairTax.
Editor in Chief:
Donald 'Doby'
Dobrosky,
